Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Predictions for the Top 4

The theme this week on American Idol is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That's a pretty broad category to pick from. I'm going with the idea that they will be picking songs by performers who have been inducted.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame started in 1987 and includes a wide variety of performers that goes beyond just rock and roll. There should easily be something for each of the contestants. With so many possibilities, I'm once again going to be taking a stab in the dark with my predictions.

Jason Castro - I Shot The Sheriff (Bob Marley) and Rave On (Buddy Holly)

I think both of these songs would be well suited for Jason. I see him doing I Shot The Sheriff more in the style of Eric Clapton, who is also an inductee. Jason is in real need of a good performance. The last few weeks have given the appearance that he is just coasting through his performances, and just this week he was quoted in Entertainment Weekly as saying he is "ready to go home." If he doesn't mean that, he is going to have to prove that he wants to be there.

David Archuleta - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) and Somebody To Love (Queen)

These songs would be great for David Archuleta. Bridge Over Troubled Water can be a big showstopper if done well. I'm not sure he has the range for the song, but if he does he should show it. Somebody To Love is a song he could really get into. David Archuleta has been sailing through every week. His best bet is to keep up with the good vocals and try to pick good songs. It would be nice if he could shake things up a bit, but he might not want to take the risk.

David Cook - Feelin' Alright (Traffic) and We Got To Get Out Of This Place (The Animals)

I would really like to see David Cook do Feelin' Alright. I could see him doing a kind of hybrid version of the Traffic and Joe Cocker versions of this song. An Animals song seems like it would fit him well. I was also thinking of The Police's King Of Pain for him, but I liked the other two choices a little better. David Cook has become the star of this competition. David already has a pretty good handle on what to do in this competition. The only thing I can say about him is that he should keep up the good work.

Syesha Mercado - Son Of A Preacher Man (Dusty Springfield) and Why Do Fools Fall In Love (Frankie Lymon)

I would really like to hear Syesha do Son Of A Preacher Man. It's a great song and I think it would be perfect for her. Why Do Fools Fall In Love would be a good contract to a ballad. It's a fun pop song that would show off the performance side of her. Syesha is probably the biggest underdog in the competition. More than anyone else, she needs to give an outstanding performance to stay in this competition. She has a great voice, but she doesn't have the fan base the other three contestants have. Song choice is key for her.

Overall, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame night is full of possibilities. I'm am really hoping to see some good song choices. My prediction is David Cook and Syesha will shine, David Archuleta will be good but not great and Jason Castro will have one okay performance and one not so great performance.
